A unique setting, the bog offers a very rewarding and leisurely stroll. There is an incredible variety of vegetation and wildlife. It’s a short walk of about three quarters of a mile, but allow more time to take in the sights and sounds of the this unique habitat.
As this is a bog, be prepared for wet conditions, and all that entails (boots, bug spray, etc.). Be aware of recent weather (especially long periods of rain) as several times I’ve visited I’ve had to abort due to long stretches of submerged boards.
There is a two plank-wide wooden boardwalk that offers a slightly elevated view, keeping you out of the water and off the flora (usually). The planks are just wide enough for one person. Dogs are not allowed in the bog.
The Ponemah Bog is nestled in the southern part of Amherst, NH and is about 10 minutes from Milford, known for great lunch and dinner destinations. Also about 10-15 minutes from the Bog is Nashua, offering many options for shopping, restaurants and accommodations.
