The Mass Central Rail Trail offers many stretches of multi-use trails throughout central Massachusetts. There are several stretches in Rutland, most are marked with this trail head sign.
Route 68 Stretch
One stretch is on Wachusett Street and runs parellel to Route 68. This particular stretch is 1.2 miles and crosses over into Holden. The surface is dirt/sand. Dogs are not allowed on this part of the trail.

Moulton Pond Stretch
Another stretch begins on Glenwood Road and ends on Miles Road. It passes next to Moulton Pond and offers nice views of local swamp land. This trail runs perpendicular to Glenwood Road, so it’s significantly quieter than the Route 68 trail. It’s paved which makes it nice for strollers. This stretch also seems to be dog-friendly but we will double check that on our next visit.
The path runs from Glenwood Road, past Moulton Pond and ends at Miles Road. The total length is about 1.7 miles.
