The Rachel Carson Wildlife Preserve was established in 1966 to protect valuable salt marshes. It is located on the southern coast of Maine and features a mile loop trail with several platforms to overlook onto the marshes. The trail is completely flat and a gravel/dirt surface.
The trail begins winding through deciduous forests. You’ll then glimpse views of the marshes, and before heading back you’ll get a great view of the Atlantic ocean in the distance.
Along the trail, wooden platforms allow a better viewpoint at well placed locations. There are benches available at most of the platforms for rest and/or reflection.
Overall a very easy and relaxing stroll in a beautiful setting. If you’re in the area, definitively worth a visit.
